Does it matter WHERE you get sworn in? |

I will be doing some of my legal work in the county in which I live, which happens to be much smaller than the county from which most of business will come. In which county should I be sworn in or does it even matter? I have looked it up and found little to no guidance on this issue. Thanks in advance for your responses.

In California, I doubt if it matters. In fact, you do not even have to attend a court or function to swear in. I did my swearing/paperwork with a notary in my office.

It doesn't matter where you get sworn in at or by. One good thing about getting sworn in at the ones cal bar puts on is that you can get sworn into the Federal District court. It could save alot of hassle down the road.

An additional question I have is whether you get a certificate when you are sworn-in for the federal court for your district? I noticed that a lot of attorneys have "diploma-looking" certificates framed saying they're sworn in to practice in front of such and such a court. Does anyone know the answer to this?

I know that you get a certificate stating that your admitted to practice in that court.

Thanks! My school has a swearing in ceremony in December which includes oaths for both state and federal courts and I wondered whether there would be additional certificates for these.

I am not going to be able to attend my school's swearing in ceremony so I think I'll have to just go to a notary public. Aside from the state bar, will other people be able to tell that you were sworn in that way? I am hoping that I can be sworn in for federal court at a later time, but don't want to wait to take the attorneys oath (even though I'd rather do it at the ceremony...)
